Privacy Policy

Scot 2 Go is a directory of family-friendly places, groups, classes, events and services across Scotland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the “data controller” for Scot 2 Go is Gemma Scullion, trading as Scot 2 Go (a sole trader based in Scotland).

We only collect what we need to run the directory. Depending on how you use the site, that may include:

If you contact us

• Your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message.

If you add or manage a business listing

• Your name and email address (to create and secure your account).
• Your business details — business name, description, address, postcode, phone number, website, opening hours, prices, images, and social media links.
• Please note that the business details you publish in a listing are public and visible to anyone using the site.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, The Weekend Scoop

• Your email address, and the council area or region you choose so we can send you relevant local picks.

If you suggest a place or event

• The details you send us about the place, and any contact information you choose to include.

When you use the site generally

• Basic technical information that any website receives, such as your device type, browser, and IP address, handled by our hosting and infrastructure providers to keep the site secure and working.
• Your saved places and chosen council area, which are stored on your own device (see Cookies and storage below).

We do not ask for or need special category data (such as health information), and we ask that you don’t include it in listings or messages.

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your information. Ours are:

Where we rely on consent (for example, the newsletter), you can withdraw it at any time — every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email us.

We don’t sell your personal information, and we never will. We do use trusted third-party providers (“processors”) to run the site. Each only receives what it needs, and only to provide its service to us:

• Our hosting and database platform (Lovable Cloud, built on Supabase) — stores the site’s data on secure servers within the European Union (Ireland).
• Beehiiv — runs our newsletter, The Weekend Scoop. If you subscribe, your email address and chosen region are stored with Beehiiv. Beehiiv is based in the United States (see International transfers below).
• Google Places — when a business adds a listing, we use Google’s business search to help fill in details like address and opening hours accurately.
• OpenStreetMap and postcodes.io — power our maps and turn postcodes into map locations so you can see what’s near you.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our users.

Your information is stored primarily on secure servers within the European Union (Ireland), which the UK recognises as providing an equivalent standard of data protection.

Some of our providers, such as Beehiiv, are based in the United States. Whenever your information is transferred outside the UK and the EU, we make sure it’s protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law — such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Scot 2 Go is designed to be light on tracking. We use your browser’s local storage to remember helpful things on your own device, such as the council area you’ve chosen and the places you’ve saved. This information stays on your device and isn’t used to track you across other websites.

We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we don’t run third-party analytics.

We keep your information only as long as we need it:

• Listings and accounts — for as long as your listing is active. Our listings carry review dates, and details that are no longer kept up to date may be hidden or removed.
• Newsletter — until you unsubscribe.
• Enquiries — for as long as needed to deal with your query and a reasonable period afterwards.

When we no longer need your information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct anything that’s inaccurate or incomplete.
• Delete your information (“right to erasure”).
• Restrict or object to how we use it.
• Portability — receive your information in a reusable format.
• Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it (such as the newsletter).

To exercise any of these, email us at hello@scot2go.uk. We’ll respond within one month.

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to put things right first, so do get in touch with us.

Scot 2 Go is a service for parents, carers and business owners — it’s about children’s activities, but it isn’t intended to be used by children themselves. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we’ll remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time as the site grows. When we make significant changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top, and where appropriate we’ll let you know.
