Privacy Policy

Scot 2 Go is a directory of family-friendly places, groups, classes, events and services across Scotland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the “data controller” for Scot 2 Go is Scot 2 Go Ltd, a limited company registered in Scotland (company number SC904780). Scot 2 Go Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number 00016054911.

We only collect what we need to run the directory. Depending on how you use the site, that may include:

If you contact us

• Your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message.

If you add or manage a business listing

• Your name and email address (to create and secure your account).
• Your business details — business name, description, address, postcode, phone number, website, opening hours, prices, images, and social media links.
• Please note that the business details you publish in a listing are public and visible to anyone using the site.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, The Weekend Scoop

• Your email address, optional first name, chosen council and region, and a record of your consent and confirmation so we can send you relevant local picks.
• Whether you’ve chosen to also receive our ASN edition (picks for children with additional support needs). This is entirely optional and unticked by default.
• Delivery records for each email we send you — when it was sent and whether it was delivered, bounced or reported as spam. We do not track whether you open emails or which links you click.
• We use double opt-in: you’re only added once you click the link in our confirmation email. If you don’t confirm, your unconfirmed sign-up is not used to send you newsletters.

If you suggest a place or event

• The details you send us about the place, and any contact information you choose to include.

When you use the site generally

• Basic technical information that any website receives, such as your device type, browser, and IP address, handled by our hosting and infrastructure providers to keep the site secure and working.
• Your saved places and chosen council area, which are stored on your own device (see Cookies and storage below).

We do not ask for or need special category data (such as health information), and we ask that you don’t include it in listings or messages. Opting in to our ASN edition may suggest that your family has an interest in additional support needs, so we treat that choice with extra care: it relies on your explicit consent, is never made public or shared for marketing, and you can switch it off at any time from the link in any newsletter.

Our newsletter and accounts are intended for adults (parents, carers and businesses). We don’t knowingly collect information from children.

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your information. Ours are:

Where we rely on consent (for example, the newsletter), you can withdraw it at any time — every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email us.

We don’t sell your personal information, and we never will. We do use trusted third-party providers (“processors”) to run the site. Each only receives what it needs, and only to provide its service to us:

• Our hosting and database platform (Lovable Cloud, built on Supabase) — stores the site’s data on secure servers within the European Union (Ireland).
• Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) — delivers The Weekend Scoop confirmation emails and newsletters. Subscriber details and consent records are held in our protected database. Amazon SES receives the email address and email content needed for delivery and reports bounces and spam complaints so we can stop further messages.
• Google Places — when a business adds a listing, we use Google’s business search to help fill in details like address and opening hours accurately.
• OpenStreetMap and postcodes.io — power our maps and turn postcodes into map locations so you can see what’s near you.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our users.

Your information is stored primarily on secure servers within the European Union (Ireland), which the UK recognises as providing an equivalent standard of data protection.

Some of our providers, such as Amazon Web Services, are based in the United States. Whenever your information is transferred outside the UK and the EU, we make sure it’s protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law — such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Scot 2 Go is designed to be light on tracking. We use your browser’s local storage to remember helpful things on your own device, such as the council area you’ve chosen and the places you’ve saved. This information stays on your device and isn’t used to track you across other websites.

We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we don’t run third-party analytics. To understand which parts of Scotland we reach, we keep an anonymous daily count of visits by approximate town, as reported by our hosting network. No IP addresses or other personal details are stored with these counts.

We keep your information only as long as we need it:

• Listings and accounts — for as long as your listing is active. Our listings carry review dates, and details that are no longer kept up to date may be hidden or removed.
• Newsletter — while you subscribe. After you unsubscribe or an address bounces or reports spam, we keep the minimum consent and suppression record needed to honour your choice and prevent unwanted emails.
• Enquiries — for as long as needed to deal with your query and a reasonable period afterwards.

When we no longer need your information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct anything that’s inaccurate or incomplete.
• Delete your information (“right to erasure”).
• Restrict or object to how we use it.
• Portability — receive your information in a reusable format.
• Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it (such as the newsletter).

To exercise any of these, email us at hello@scot2go.uk. We’ll respond within one month.

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to put things right first, so do get in touch with us.

Scot 2 Go is a service for parents, carers and business owners — it’s about children’s activities, but it isn’t intended to be used by children themselves. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we’ll remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time as the site grows. When we make significant changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top, and where appropriate we’ll let you know.
